P. Moore at TheThink discusses the Geico caveman advertisements. He says:
I’m sure many of you have seen the Geico commercials, which are a series of very funny shorts in which two cavemen perpetually get offended by newscasters, car salesmen, and airport advertisements. The first couple of times I saw these commercials, I couldn’t help but think about how race relations in the United States play such a big part in what we find humorous. To be sure, cavemen are not a “race”, but it’s pretty hard not to notice the connections between these Geico commercials and race relations at home.
Here’s the commercial P. Moore was talking about:
Moore follows up with this question:
Anyone think that these commercials are poking fun at a group other than the ‘cavemen’?
It could be. I, too, have been wondering who or what they’re poking fun at. After reading Moore’s post, I gave it a little more thought. Could it be the pusillanimous mewling of the not-so-elusive “disaffected white male”? :) I notice the poor guy goes to therapy….
Only a guess. By the way, Moore has three more YouTubes from the same series of advertisements, if you’re interested.
