Police arrested nine people Wednesday in a predominantly Pakistani neighborhood of Birmingham, England, on suspicion of committing, preparing or instigating terrorism.

The Assistant Chief Constable of the West Midlands police confirmed that eight people had been arrested in early morning raids, and an additional arrest was made later in the day.

CBS News correspondent Elizabeth Palmer reports that the alleged plot apparently involved plans to kidnap and behead a serving British soldier of Muslim descent, according to law enforcement sources. The suspects may also have intended to videotape the execution and show it on the Internet, Palmer reported.  (Emphasis added by Effluent.)

Boy, the Brits have some serious problems on the other side of the pond.  This story makes me wonder if this “serving British soldier of Muslim descent” had a name—if the bastards had already decided on their target?  And what was their point?  To let law-abiding Muslim citizens of Britain know that there’s a price to pay for exhibiting loyalty to the country that shelters them?  That’s about the only thing I can think of.

We’re fortunate here in America that we haven’t faced the same kind of threat…so far.  That we know of.

So much for the plaintiff bleating by the liberal left about the administration’s so-called “warrant-less wiretapping” program.  Or about the way the FBI looks at our precious phone records.  Or about the way the FBI wants to know about our book-borrowing habits at the local library….

If the FBI were to take a gander at my phone records, they’d discover the hideous fact that I called my Mom.  (Mom’s house is a notorious hotbed of terrorist activity.)

And what if they inquired into my book borrowing habits at the library?  Now that, I fear, would be quite embarrassing.

I haven’t set foot inside a library for over a decade, you see.
