New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning has redeemed himself. Earlier in the 2007 NFL season, New York area newspapers were carrying Monday morning headlines like:
Eli The Terrible!
Well, Eli isn’t quite so terrible now after the Giants’ 23-20 victory against the Green Bay Packers in a sloppy game played in -4 degree Fahrenheit temperatures at Lambeau Field.

Brett Favre and his Green Bay Packers are “packing,” all right. Packing it in for the season.
Eli and the Giants are going to Superbowl XLII.
As are the New England Patriots, who beat the San Diego Chargers 21-12 at Foxboro yesterday. This isn’t such a surprise. But the Chargers played a surprisingly scrappy game against the Pats, especially since quarterback Phillip Rivers was noticeably hobbled throughout the game and star running back LaDainian Tomlinson pretty much confined himself to the bench.
So it’s off to Glendale, Arizona for the Patriots and the Giants.
Warm, sunny Glendale, Arizona. My home turf!
Eli will have an easier time of it in Phoenix than he did in Green Bay. And it’s neutral territory, too.
Go Giants! Superb job, Eli!
