Between 1950 and 1953, the United States helped South Korea wage a war against the invading forces of North Korea (and their communist Chinese and Soviet allies). After three hard years of fighting, the communist forces were pushed back into North Korea, and a cease fire was eventually signed.
Take a look at the electric lighting that is evident in the southern half of the picture. Take a look at the lack of electric lighting in the northern half.
Who got the better end of the deal?

It would be interestig to see the same kind of photo for Iraq and Afghanistan both pre-war and now.
