I did a word search on Merriam-Webster Online for the word misspeak. Here’s a screen capture of the results:

Why did I engage in such strange behavior?
Well, I’ve noticed lately that the Democratic Party presidential candidates (Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton, of course) have each been suffering from a debilitating bout of verbal diarrhea. Yes, and it seems that sometimes this rare malady causes them to say very stupid things. Moronic things, even.
And when people get around to asking them what exactly they meant when they said those utterly stupid things, the standard answer seems to be:
I misspoke.
Madre de Dios! This is, indeed, a serious problem! So I took it upon myself to assign a name to this mysterious contagion that seems to limit itself to the upper echelons of the Democratic Party. (The search for a cure has to start somewhere, doesn’t it?)
I call it “misspeak-arrhea”.
As a remedy, I suggest bismuth subsalicylate (Kaopectate) and a muzzle.
Any other suggestions?
