This blog is about what all blogs are about. That is, it’s a little piece of cyberspace I’ve rented in order to vent my spleen. When I told an old friend of mine that I was working
on this thing, he said, “I started a blog, too, but then I realized that I didn’t have anything to say that a thousand people haven’t already said–at least not anything my wife would allow me to say.” Well, I don’t have a wife to get in my way anymore. But the gist of what my friend said got me to thinking. And it was a decidedly disabling sort of thinking, I must say. It was disabling enough to delay any sort of serious posting activity by more than a month. And this seems strange to me, because in an environment of domestic political factionalism, international terror and radical Jihadism, war, AIDS, poverty and starvation, you’d think a fella could find something to rant about. But time and again my post-writing efforts were stymied by this damned “somebody already said it” brick wall….
But then I realized that these days nobody ever says anything that hasn’t been said. Nobody is capable of saying anything completely original, in other words. It’s simply a function of the sheer number of people who have lived before us. And that doesn’t stop millions of people from shooting their mouths off every day, now does it?
So the way I see it, therein lies my license to blog.
